This is an important appointment that is well deserved given Justice Mlambo's demonstrable track record as a leader in the legal profession and judiciary.
An independent and impartial judiciary is a treasure and resource for any country. To the contrary a judiciary that lacks independence and impartiality is not a judiciary but a tool at the hands of an oppressive system. It is a liability to society.
Deputy Chief Justice Mlambo has been a pillar of strength in developing new jurisprudence and new norms in the judiciary and South Africa is richer with this appointment.
Collaboration on AI in Electoral Justice
Lately DCJ Mlambo has worked together with our Principal Managing Partner Arnold Tsunga and other leading thought leaders in the justice sector in Africa to develop a toolkit for judicial oversight over Artificial Intelligence in Electoral Justice under the technical leadership of Yiaga Africa collaborating with Africa Judges and Jurists Forum and #AEJNet. This is the first such tool in the world that will be launched at the #AEJNAnnualConference2025 to be hosted by the Chief Justice of Zambia #ChiefJusticeDrMumbaMalila between 9 and 12 September 2025 in Livingstone, Zambia.
