We are very sad to learn of the passing on of Justice Moses Chinhengo today in the morning in Masvingo. Justice Chinhengo was a distinguished jurist who was well respected for his professionalism and practice in delivery of justice and strengthening of the rule of law in Southern Africa.
He served as a judge of the High Court of Zimbabwe from 1996 to 2004, a judge of the High Court of Botswana from 2004 to 2012. Thereafter he variously sat as Judge of the Court of Appeal in Lesotho, Judge of the High Court of Namibia and Acting Justice of the Supreme Court of Namibia. He also ran a respected Arbitration Centre in Harare.
At the time of his death he was the Chairperson of Africa Judges and Jurists Forum (AJJF) which he co-founded with other judges and eminent jurists. For his stand as a champion of justice with integrity and without fear or favour Judge Chinhengo was recognized as a Commissioner by the International Commission of Jurists.
Zimbabwe and Africa has lost a gallant fighter for justice and the rule of law. He will be solely missed. We wish strength to his family at this difficult moment. May his Soul Rest in Peace and his legacy for justice continue to inspire us.
